Tubbataha

Here, my inspiration comes from the Philippines’ tropical sun illuminating the flora and fauna.

The rather large size of this and similar works is important; it allows black gestural brushstrokes to animate color, provide structure, and define spatial relationships. Nature’s choreographic impulses come to mind as I paint. Chromatically, neutral colors keep the warms and cools in harmony as they play off one another.
