WALL TEXT
This large painting takes as its subject the Baptism of Christ. We see the alignment of God the Father (who's hands reach down from heaven), the Holy Spirit (the hovering dove) and Jesus, whose hands are held in an attitude of prayer. A bowl pouring water is suspended above the head of Jesus (the traditional figure of John the Baptist was eliminated so as to focus on the Trinity). The "sacred heart” of Christ floats behind the figure of Jesus as a reminder that his love for us is like a shield. It also acts as a warm coloristic counterpoint to the swirling blues and greens. The text running along the bottom is paraphrased from Jn. 3: 8. It says, "you cannot see it, you cannot hear it" referring to the Holy Spirit who orchestrates this mystical interaction.
