Stilllife with Self-Portrait

This is a still-life that includes a self-portrait. Painted in my studio, the objects are typical of an artist’s working environment, plus some plants and fruits for color. There is no specific meaning here other than capturing myself as a non-intrusive part of a familiar environment.

I worked on this over a period of 30 years, on and off, never quite being able to bring it to a state of completion that satisfied me. I’ve had several paintings that take a long, long time to finish. Putting them away for a month, a year, or more usually provides me with the knowledge and distance I need to complete them.
