WALL TEXT
I have a fig tree which I highly value for its fruit and as a reminder of the seasons. I devote much time and care to its welfare; fertilizing it at the right time of year, trimming it back in the Fall, picking the fruit the day it fully ripens so the birds won’t get to it. Pests are smart and will wait and only eat the fruit once it is fully ripe and figs ripen sweetest on the branch. Then there’s processing the fruit in the late summer into jam or drying it in the oven.
The Bible refers often to fig trees: Jesus cursed one that produced no fruit; in a fig orchard he prayed so intensely that he bled from his pores. I guess one could call this painting an homage to my fig tree. It's a good reminder as paintings often are.
