Mga Sapsap II

This is a medallion (symmetrical) composition inspired by an everyday image of fish being washed in a large bowl. The grouping of small anonymous sap-sap fish, common in the Philippines, is countered by the individual observations of each fish. Their blue and green colors are also countered by the warm yellows of the bowl and tabletop which acts as a type of framing device.

I search out these beautiful yet quotidian Filipino images in order to charge my visual inventory— a part of learning what makes a Filipino artist, Filipino. Late in life this has become my personal existential search.
