Liturgical Art Forms

Getting carried away with the idea of chalk talks and taking it to the next level, I came up with this mixed-media painting based on the film The Sound of Music. I imagined the main character, Maria, having a celestial vision while reading her Bible. The torn lace is a reference to both Maria’s penchant for making clothes out of curtains and the veil that was torn in the Temple during the Crucifixion. "J’arrive, Mon Seigneur" ("I’m coming, My Lord") can be attributed to Maria as a prayer. It’s a bit tongue-in-cheek, having fun by pushing the liturgical art form into more expressive, non-didactic areas.
