WALL TEXT
I used the traditional subject of Madonna and Child to reach back to the Old Testament Genesis narrative. Mary is sometimes referred to as the “Second Eve”—whereas Eve succumbed to the Serpent’s temptation to eat of the forbidden fruit, Mary did not. Here I suggest that Mary successfully resisted temptation because she held the Christ child and only He, whose purpose on Earth was to deal with sin, held the fruit. This coincides with the New Testament directive on the proper placement of the believer with respect to temptation.
