This is a small interpretation of Fra Angelico’s eponymous masterpiece. The winged angel Gabriel announces to Mary, seated with hands crossed in the form of a dove, that she is to bear the Son of God, the Messiah. In the far left corner, one sees an avenging angel ushering Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden because they had chosen to disobey God. Mary, on the other hand, humbly obeyed: “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). The round architectural niche above depicts God like a bridegroom anxiously awaiting Mary’s response.
