Damian Domingo is considered by many to be the ๐๐ข๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ช๐ฏ๐ต๐ช๐ฏ๐จ who specialized in both religious and secular-themed paintings during the early 19th century. This ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ด๐ต๐ช๐ป๐ฐ ๐ฅ๐ฆ ๐ด๐ข๐ฏ๐จ๐ญ๐ฆ๐บ (Chinese mestizo) from Tondo was born on February 12, 1796 and is credited with establishing the first official art academy at his Tondo residence in the year 1821. He is celebrated for his ๐ต๐ช๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ด ๐ฅ๐ฆ ๐ฑ๐ข๐ช๐ด series of paintings โa style of watercolor paintings that depicts the different types of Filipino inhabitants during the Spanish colonial period.
My strategy here was to take one of his miniatures and enlarge it to life-size, hopefully giving the modern viewer a new experience and appreciation of Damianโs work.
