Here again, there seems to be a slight disconnect between the text and the image of a hand getting ready to throw a rock. Only by referring back to the Biblical narrative is one reminded that the text records what Jesus said right before they stoned him. We are reminded of the power of the word to elicit a violent response in Hebrew culture. The physicality of the hand and rock testify to the incarnational reality of the connectedness between the physical, the emotional and the spiritual.
