This is a small oil painting -- not specifically Biblical, but inspired by Jesus’ command in Matthew 18:3: “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
The disciples had just asked Jesus, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” In other words, they were already jockeying for position -- a thoroughly adult tendency.
As I meditated on what it means to be “like a child,” I envisioned this image: a hand holding a heart and a brain, symbolizing the unity of actions, feelings, and thoughts. Its small size and simple, Crayola-like colors and texture may help convey that message.
