Ascension (after Rembrandt)

The figure of the ascending Christ was inspired by Rembrandt's masterful rendering of the same subject. The red-garbed figure in the foreground represents the believer who “will recognize Him because we will be like Him.” The media here includes nails embedded in the paint which add texture and allude to Christ’s suffering on the cross. The textual fragments are again from scriptural passages referring to Christ’s ascension into heaven—a common device found in much of my work which connects it to Scripture and keeps my thoughts anchored there as well.
