FEATURED COLLECTION, SPRING 2017
Since I was a very young boy, 5 or 6 yrs old, I often occupied myself building altars - small scale but aesthetically pleasing they were usually placed in the closet of my bedroom. I must have got this idea from attending Catholic Mass with my parents. Later, reading C. S. Lewis' The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe to my own kids, the wardrobe didn’t seem odd as the obvious passage to God's Kingdom.
Looking back over my artistic production now at the age of 67, I am surprised at how many images take the form of altars - the altar being a special or holy place of prayer, refuge, sacrifice. The altar (or the easel) seems a likely place for me to encounter God--a place where my God-given talents can mediate my way back to my Creator.
I hope you enjoy this small on-line showing of several altar type images that I have created over the years.
